69 HaiPick ACRs
Skechers is launching a distribution center in Minato City, Tokyo, Japan, outfitted with technology to help automate the fulfillment process. The new center was built with technology from Hai Robotics, an automated storage and retrieval systems provider. The HaiPick System stretches 139,705 square feet within the facility and includes 69 HaiPick autonomous case-handling mobile robots (ACRs), which navigate the warehouse’s shelving system. After the HaiPick System’s robots retrieve containers from shelves, they deliver them to eight workstations staffed by human operators, who scan and confirm orders to be fulfilled. [Sourcing Journal]
Closing 150 stores, Opening 75 new stores
As part of a transformation plan, Macy’s said it will shutter 150 underperforming locations over the next three years, with 50 closing this year alone. At the same time, Macy’s Inc. will open 15 Bloomingdale’s stores, at least 30 Bluemercury stores and 30 small-format, off-mall stores. Over the next three years, the company expects store-monetization proceeds of about $500 million to $650 million and asset sale gains of about $250 million to $350 million. [Retail Dive]
102 dock doors, and 143 trailers
With more freight moving between the U.S. and Mexico, Ryder System is growing its operations and capacity on both sides of the border. The company has opened a new logistics operation in Laredo, Texas, and expanded its drayage yard across the Rio Grande in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico. The Laredo logistics operation is a 228,000-square-foot multiclient warehouse and cross-dock. It is located three miles from the World Trade Bridge on the U.S.-Mexico border. The facility has 102 dock doors and room for 143 trailers. It is within six miles of other Ryder operations in Laredo, allowing for flexibility with labor and resources. [Fleet Owner]
~364,000 sqft
The total new warehouse space that San Joaquin County, Calif., broke ground on in 2023 is around 364,000 sqft. That’s down from almost seven million in 2022, according to real estate data provider CoStar. Amazon’s first warehouse there in 2013 touched off a land rush, with major retailers vying for space to fill online orders from the San Francisco Bay Area. Now, the fading pandemic-era warehouse boom is hitting that part of the Central Valley hard.[WSJ]
$50M Series B
Collaborative commerce firm Crisp, which provides retailers with real-time inventory data, has raised $50 million in a Series B extension round to drive its growth efforts. Crisp provides brands and distributors with the latest store and shelf-level data. More than 700 CPG brands, including Mars, Hormel and Kraft Heinz, use the Crisp platform to enhance relationships with retail partners. Because of this data, brands are better able to predict demand, maintain stock levels, avoid overstocks and markdowns, and target marketing spend to the areas with the best sales potential, the release said.
